Question: How do I determine if there is enough demand in my area for a business idea?
I would like to start a home business. Not an Internet home business. This would be providing a service in my local geographical area. Everybody is telling me that first I need to determine if there is enough demand for this business. “Do some market research” they say. No one is offering me any advice on HOW to do this. So how do I find out whether the small business I want to start has enough demand in my area to be successful or not?
I forgot to ask also if using Google Insights would be helpful for doing this research on determining whether there is enough demand in my local area for a particular small business.

Answer:

Answer by Commentator1981
Demand is difficult to gauge. Especially if it’s a unique product/service that isn’t currently offered in your area. If it does already exist, and you’re adding your product to the market as competition, you can observe the level of success the other company has had to determine if you will sell product.

There are also market research companies that provide services to start-ups. They have means of collecting and quantifying data from the area and interpreting it in ways that you can understand. It’s not everyday that a business owner can do his/her own market research – especially small home-based businesses.

Question: Why are Demographics important in supporting a business venture?
please help if u can! thanks in advance!

im pretending to be building a kennel and

i have to explain the demographics of the danvers area, and why its important in supporting a business venture!

Answer:

Answer by In Science we trust
Demographics such as the distribution by age of residents, number of pet owners, number of frequent travelers, etc. could all be important factors in identifying your target market and how many there are of them in the area. For example, if pet owning, frequent travel ling people aged 40 to 60 are the most likely to use kennel services it is helpful to know where they live and if their numbers are growing and by how much. These data will help you make an accurate projection of potential sales.
