Question: What are the demographics of people who enroll in online universities?
I’m working on a marketing campaign for an online school and would like to know more about people who tend to enroll in online colleges and universities.
I am a college student — not a professional.

I know, but I won’t tell. It is proprietary information. If you were retained to structure the campaign, I would think that you could do the research.
Question: Where online can I find the most up to date US demographics? Especially for Houston, TX?
I’m taking a business class and I have to continue to look up demographics for Houston but I am having a hard time finding anything past 2003 with most information in 2000. I even tried the US census government website and all I could find was info for 2000. Am I looking in the wrong place? Or are there other websites where I can get more up to date information? Thanks.

Question: What is the most effective way to gather non-sensitive customer demographics online?
What’s the most effective way to gather non-sensitive customer demographics online without using a registration wall? I manage analytics for 14 major newsites, and I want to give my advertisers the information they want, without making my readers register (which I think creates fall-out).

Unfortunately, surveys are your only option to collect demographic information. Web analytics cannot give you the age, profession, reason for visiting the site, feedback on the site unless the user gives it to you.
Demographic surveys are important in selling ads for your site as you are able to better inform the advertisers of who your users are. You are also able to sharpen your content to serve the key demographics of your site
My suggestions are:
- Integrate some demographic questions during newsletter signup process
- If you offer anything for free — e.g. white paper, ebook — ask a few demographic questions before the user can download the material
- Use a service such as SurveyMonkey that will allow you to paste on your homepage or key landing pages on your site a button urging visitors to help you improve the site by filling up a survey
- Occasionally run banner ads or text advertising on your site that urges visitors to help you improve the site by answering your demographic survey
- If you have a newsletter list, send an email to them requesting them to fill out your survey
Of course one thing is given: not everyone will fill out the survey. But the pros outweighs the cons.
Question: Why are conservative religious people more likely to use online porn?
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn16680-porn-in-the-usa-conservatives-are-biggest-consumers.html?DCMP=OTC-rss&nsref=online-news
“Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. “Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by,” Edelman says…
States where a majority of residents agreed with the statement “I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage,” bought 3.6 more subscriptions per thousand people than states where a majority disagreed. A similar difference emerged for the statement “AIDS might be God’s punishment for immoral sexual behaviour.”
Turns out the biggest consumer is Utah.
