Question: What do you think are the demographics of?
The kids who die from the flu every year. Some were healthy. Why do people believe that it can’t happen to them.
Answer:
Answer by Sarah B… Mommy to Sam
I guess some people think the risk is worth the benefit, for me it is not.
My son is asthmatic and has a weak immune system, and getting the flu could very easily land him in the hospital for days, even weeks, or even kill him. So the decision is not a hard one for me to make.

Interesting question. I feel like the answer should be that these were people who had poor access to medical care or health insurance. Those who couldn’t afford it or those who weren’t educated or in touch with current events.
I dont know but the idea of “it wont happen to me or my children” should never cross a parents mind. I learned my lesson on that a long time ago.
I think most of the children who have died from the regular flu were not healthy and for those that appeared to be, there may have been an underlying medical condition that no one knew they had. For the rest I tend to think nothing was done soon enough and then it was too late.
I certainly don’t have the idea that it can’t happen to us or that my children are not at some risk however I think the risk to them is very small and as a parent if they did get the flu and it was bad I would not wait to get them to the hospital and demand treatment.
Obviously this new flu seems to be killing more people who appear healthy otherwise and of course that scares me, but not enough to inject my children with a vaccine that no one knows for sure how safe it is.
